I was told the bottom floor of the dickey house (now below grade) was buried when they installed the subways in FiDi. I have some images I can send to Tom to publish. This spring plans were approved for a new tower next door to contain offices and a school. Part of the requirements for the projects was building around and preserving 9to some extent) #67 since it is a Historical Landmark. Otherwise, it might have been demolished just like all the other historical buildings around it. They are bricking over the facade and making some major floorplan changes, but removing the back 1-story addition among other things. Here's the article about it, including the developer's presentation slides showing the layout of the building inside: http://newyorkyimby.com/2016/03/less-overhang-paves-way-for-landmarks-approval-of-mixed-use-tower-at-77-greenwich-street.htmlLizhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14119145477585367959noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7502312000087595701.post-29112790326902237872015-08-13T17:51:24.806-07:002015-08-13T17:51:24.806-07:00I have been passing this building repeatedly over ...I have been passing this building repeatedly over the last several weeks. Fascinated by the wonderful curved structure of the rear facade. Thinking what fine rooms they would bee in which to live. My interest was so intense it I went to the internet and have now discovered it's fantastic history. It is so close to all the fine new construction that is going on downtown. it seems a realistic appraisal that section of lower Greenwich, just about a block long, will soon be going uphill once again. I did not recognize it as Federal but how fine this little historic gem could be, saved among the family of beautiful skyscrapers going up near it. If somehow the owner could be made to see its real value, they could really do something for the city, of which they own a small, but very fine part. This is a priceless, 200 year plus, architectural survivor and landmark or not, it wont be saved for future generations unless somebody starts to maintain it. The place looks empty and abandoned. Any updates or information since the scaffolding photo was taken?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7502312000087595701.post-10371272407020820882013-05-15T07:57:46.632-07:002013-05-15T07:57:46.632-07:00In 2005, I did some research about this building i...In 2005, I did some research about this building in order to testify on its behalf before the Landmarks Preservation Commission. Some remarkable, providential things had happened. In 1845, a huge fire engulfed much of the city east of Broadway, but it stopped 350 feet from the Dickey house. Between 1850 and 1950, over a century, every single house around #67 was torn down, either for other buildings or for the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel. Why not #67 too? In the early 1980s, the owners could have demolished but chose not to? Why? They were neglecting it badly, allowing it to disintegrate slowly--and then in 2001 the house was spared once again during the World Trade Center attacks. I suggested that we should stop counting on miracles to save this distinguished house and urged the commissioners to designate it and save it for good. They did.Penelope Bareaunoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7502312000087595701.post-85177632802424183222012-05-30T20:22:51.786-07:002012-05-30T20:22:51.786-07:00My great great grand father used to live in this b...My great great grand father used to live in this building for over 30 years from 1920.
