The New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission, in its 1973 report on the SoHo-Cast Iron Historic District, says the building, at 495 Broadway, was designed by Alfred Zucker for Augustus D. Juilliard and was completed in 1893. Several other sources shown below say the building was designed by Buchman & Deisler for Jeremiah C. Lyons, who had previously developed real estate in other areas of Manhattan, and was completed in 1897. However, many of these same sources mistakenly show the address as 491 Broadway. The Landmarks Preservation Commission says 491 Broadway, the somewhat thinner 12-story building adjacent to the south of the New Era Building, is the 1897 Buchman & Deisler building.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03443483188709909853noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7502312000087595701.post-760902779549279682022-01-24T07:39:52.214-08:002022-01-24T07:39:52.214-08:00I am a relative of one the owners of the new era p...I am a relative of one the owners of the new era printing company company. His name was Samuel J. Bederson. He was my grandmother’s father. It’s always upsetting that he’s wiped from history. Especially that his nephew began to steal money from the company, causing it to bankrupt. That’s the reason they closed down. I am researching the history of that building for the school that currently lives there, and I know the facade was changed substantially several owners after JC Lyons built it, so I am in search of any pre-renovation pictures.
