Suffice it to say that there was no need to sell the building.

armyartyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00621738173563972139noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7502312000087595701.post-11884112596768608682020-08-18T07:06:13.940-07:002020-08-18T07:06:13.940-07:00Thank you for posting my comment. I should also note that the organization also received something in the neighborhood of 100k as a bequest at around the same time, in addition to what I already mentioned. Sadly, the sale of our historic armory was due entirely to its monetary value.
armyartyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00621738173563972139noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7502312000087595701.post-39171688753408805812020-08-17T17:28:25.394-07:002020-08-17T17:28:25.394-07:00If you read the article, the quote in question was...If you read the article, the quote in question was something said by one of the people looking to sell the building, which had recently undergone extensive repairs over a multi-year period, starting under Colonel John A. Gargan, and continuing while I was Commandant, and afterwards. It was a wonderful place, filled with one of a kind artifacts dating all the way back to the Revolution, some of them having extreme significance. I enjoy your excellent blog, but I am anxious to disassociate myself from the above quote. You should also know that the Old Guard had previously received an offer of funding jointly signed by Charles Wrangel and Jerrold Nadler, which I declined to pursue, for the simple reason that we did not need the money.

armyartyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00621738173563972139noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7502312000087595701.post-52211881974225251222020-08-17T15:51:30.790-07:002020-08-17T15:51:30.790-07:00The quotation is cited here: https://therealdeal....The quotation is cited here: https://therealdeal.com/2016/03/06/the-old-guard-may-soon-be-fighting-for-new-digs/Tom Millerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13542224816886418433noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7502312000087595701.post-27202477798672096522020-08-17T14:50:19.581-07:002020-08-17T14:50:19.581-07:00I am the former Commandant Arthur L. We actually had a recent windfall of $67,500, besides an income of about $60,000 per year, and extensive repairs throughout the building. The full story of why the Old Guard moved must await another day.
armyartyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00621738173563972139noreply@blogger.com
