I stumbled upon the church one evening when I was walking to the subway station from my new place of work. I had walked by the church before... but after my ordeal... I took to visiting the church more seriously...They always would have a daily bazaar which sold appliances, clothing, books...jewelry and Christmas cards.. Basically whatever donations were given were sold at a greatly reduced cost, plus platters of food and sandwiches were usually donated and distributed in the basement of the church... When I walked in for the first time I realized what an important meeting place this was for a badly battered community... under severe economic hardship... The church was truly there for the poor and those who needed spiritual sustenance... the old fashioned way. The area surrounding the church is extremely dangerous and it was an important escape for me at a difficult time in my life... I still visit the church, but it doesn't provide the services it used to when the bazaar was open... I hope it can re-open shortly to be there for the community once again.Terriann B. I believe the church and politics {even though the tactics weren't up and up} it got the Irish out of slums etc. Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
