It was built on the site of the old mansion. In the early 70's, I was a delivery boy for a houseware/hardware store, and would deliver to a beer family at 1185. I delivered to the Rupperts at 93rd and 5th ave where they had a few apts., from the sale of the Ruppert mansion. The Peter Baab panaramic photos, have got to be the greatest NYC photography of all time. I grew up in the neighborhood, and from birth to present, I can take a tour of my life, from Mount Sinai Hosp., to 98th & Lex., to Yorkville. Thank you Geo. Ehret, It is a great gift to the City. Ehret made yorkville what it is, Ruppert then followed (and bought the Yankees). Cheers! Trying to get an idea of its history, an appraisal perhaps.
Please reach out with any interest, I would love to chat.
-JoeJoe Espohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14564559468764579958noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7502312000087595701.post-11052317770921575592017-09-23T19:00:07.152-07:002017-09-23T19:00:07.152-07:00George Ehret is an ancestor of mineGeorge Ehret is an ancestor of mineAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00222268154057679996noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7502312000087595701.post-84100392954911612782017-01-18T12:38:53.839-08:002017-01-18T12:38:53.839-08:00Great article, I would be interested in reading yo...Great article, I would be interested in reading your primary sources for this. My great-grandfather had a saloon at 1441 Park Ave. The deed was issued in June 1913 with a mortgage held by George Ehret. He died under suspicious circumstances in May 1925, family lore has held it was murder, something to do with running the bar as a speakeasy during those years. I have been trying to dig into the history, so any recommendations for reading more about Ehret would be appreciated.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05192905023137661559noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7502312000087595701.post-6424744149115275412015-11-10T07:52:37.487-08:002015-11-10T07:52:37.487-08:00Who was Samuel L. Too, while Europe had centuries of history, America was only a little over 100 years old. It took awhile for Americans to embrace their history. Architectural preservation is alive and well in America now.Tom Millerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13542224816886418433noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7502312000087595701.post-21721833707412169652011-12-27T18:46:41.635-08:002011-12-27T18:46:41.635-08:00This place was gorgeous! One of the things I think about whenever I check out this site, is that whenever an older building is destroyed in New York, almost inevitably it's replaced with something much more anonymous-looking (though that's true everywhere, including where I live). Is it an American thing? They seem to love and take pride in the older architecture in Europe. Kind of sad!AKhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02084216883655540363noreply@blogger.com
