I love old buildings and old Chelsea. I love old New York as far back in the Victorian times and beyond. I'm curious to know what was west 23rdstr like in the 18th century, around 1776. Any history as far back as that? Also there was a victorian mansion right across the street from me (not there anymore) also built in the 1800s, can you tell me more about the owners of that house? I think I read it was owned by occultist types which intrigued me, but not sure if that's true. Currently it's a building for seniors now but the old lamp posts from the 19th century are still there at the same spot it's always been. Your building, like 354, was built in the mid-19th century when West 23rd Street was seeing the rise of upscale homes.Tom Millerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13542224816886418433noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7502312000087595701.post-85657752110871355852023-06-09T09:30:30.284-07:002023-06-09T09:30:30.284-07:00HI, fascinating history by the way. It says the two buildings were built in 1910 so I am confused, was 354 actually built first in the 1800s and then 356 built in 1910? Or were they both built in 1800s? Real Estate history says 1910 and I have found some old pics from the 1900s of 354 and 356 online but nothing before that.Kchelseahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06185571791516641644noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7502312000087595701.post-86647836195937540402021-05-05T06:25:10.575-07:002021-05-05T06:25:10.575-07:00No. It was a cable streetcar line.
